International Dialling Codes
Introduction
To use direct international dialling, first dial the Access Code (dialling out code) then the Country Code (dialling in code) of the country to which the
call is to be made. These codes are then followed by area/city codes and finally subscriber numbers.
Normally the first 0 or 9 of an area or city code are omitted. Notable exceptions to this rule include the USA, Canada, Italy, Spain and Russia, where
the full area code is dialled. The vast majority of international direct dialling numbers are as follows: (a number in London being dialled from France
for example is:) 00 44 20 7911 0855, where 00 is the Access Code and 44 the Country Code for the UK.
